Music Awakens Memories for Adults with Dementia

Columbus, OH (October 13, 2014) – The Wesley Communities today kicks off a unique campaign to raise funds for a personalized music program benefiting residents struggling with Alzheimer’s, dementia and other forms of cognitive and physical impairment.

Research has shown that music is profoundly linked to memories and emotions that are completely inaccessible otherwise and has the power to rekindle lost memories and sense  of identity. Improved quality of life is another benefit from listening to personal music favorites.

“Our goal is to raise money to start a personalized music program benefiting those in our Adult Day Program who struggle with Alzheimer’s, dementia and other forms of cognitive impairment,” said Dinah Cason, executive director of development. “The campaign culminates on December 2, 2014, Giving Tuesday, but we encourage people not to wait; give today.”

100% of the funds raised from this campaign will go to operate the dementia and Alzheimer’s program at The Wesley Communities and purchase iPods and music for a personalized music program.
