Walk the Way to End Alzheimer’s
(Columbus, Ohio)- On Sunday, residents, families and staff at The Wesley Communities joined together at the 2018 Walk to End Alzheimer’s. The team, “The Wesley Way,” successfully raised over $3,600 to support the Alzheimer’s Association.
“Through joining the 2018 Walk to End Alzheimer’s, we have not only been able to raise awareness, but also provide funds to support research efforts to end Alzheimer’s disease,” explains Richelle Bhandari, Life Enrichment Coordinator for Memory Care at Wesley Ridge Retirement Community.
The Wesley Way team had the generous support of 80 people, with 35 individuals who joined the walk. Families of former residents led fundraising efforts, while families and residents walked alongside staff from Wesley Ridge, Wesley Woods, Wesley Hospice and Wesley Caregiver Support group.
Prior to the walk, The Wesley Communities had a virtual Alzheimer’s experience at Wesley Ridge Retirement Community. This experience enabled those wanting a better understanding of what it feels like for many of our residents.
“We have many residents suffering from Alzheimer’s and other dementias. The virtual reality experience shows residents, families, and staff what these individuals are going through, which is sometimes hard to fully understand,” explains LaTasha Goodwin, Executive Director for Wesley Hospice. “Because of the virtual Alzheimer’s experience, our already caring and compassionate residents and staff have an even better understanding of the challenges facing our residents suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.”
