Experience the Wesley Way – Visitor and Vendors Experience
(Columbus, OH)— Each year, Wesley Glen Retirement Community offers employee seminars on an array of topics that are beneficial to our staff and their career growth. Last month, the seminar was “Experience the Wesley Way – Visitor and Vendors Experience,” a customer-service focused presentation reminding our staff that every day, they can make a difference through providing exceptional care and kindness.
The presentation was led by Wesley Glen Executive Director, Jill Easterling. Jill has had experience working in many different avenues and departments within our community, and is an example of how daily actions truly impact not only one’s career but also, the success of an organization.
Jill centered the presentation on how to treat our residents, vendors and family members, and shared with all who attended “The Starfish” story. For those who are not familiar, “The Starfish” story tells the tale of a young man walking down the beach who comes across an older gentleman picking up starfish that are stranded on shore and throwing them back into the ocean. The young man doesn’t seem to understand why the older man would waste his time on something that most likely won’t make a significant difference. The older gentleman then explains that while it may not make a difference to all starfish, it is making a difference to the one in his hand.
The story is a great example for employees in that, no matter how small an act of kindness is, it does impact those we serve. The seminar concluded with all staff members receiving a copy of the story and also a starfish pin to keep as a daily reminder to continue providing exceptional service.
